Writing Process Assessment

Need to quickly determine how well students are able to independently complete the steps in the writing process?  Use this activity in one session or across multiple days to assess how students are able to brainstorm, draft, and edit a piece about a familiar topic – a favorite holiday!  Alternatively, these materials could be used with teacher facilitation and support to develop students’ paragraph writing skills.

3 levels included:

The typical version contains a graphic organizer and lined paper for writing.  An accommodated version includes additional visual supports to assist with ideation and sentence starters to support sentence construction and reduce writing output.  A modified version asks students to make a selection and list several facts and can be used with students who communicate via AAC
