Flat Stanley – Text and Letter Writing

0 Ratings

Reading Flat Stanley and sending a version of this flat character off to friends and relatives far away is a wonderful, memorable, engaging way to connect reading, writing, art, and geography lessons.  Students begin by reading the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown and then they design their own flat character – we had students create self portraits named after themselves.  The Flat Student was mailed with an accompanying personal letter to friends and family who live in different states and countries.  Over time, the Flat Students returned to us from their various travels with pictures and mementos from all of the places they had visited.  We marked these places on a large classroom map and celebrated as each Flat Student returned to us.

Note: Teachers will need to obtain their own copies of Flat Stanley and a classroom map and teachers will utilize their own friendly letter format and self-portrait templates.
